UCDNova-EastQuadrangle3.jpg

We are presently designing the East Quadrangle phase of NovaUCD at Merville House. This follows our work on the earlier phases of Nova at Merville House in 2002-2006.

Merville House is a remarkable building which resonates strongly a unique sense of place. This feeds positively into the entrepreneurial culture of University College Dublin Nova.

The East Quadrangle will complement Nova Innovation Centre at Merville House and further increases the visibility of this key university activity which promotes innovation from within academia.

GPO Witness History has won the Micheletti Award 2017 by Stephen Moylan

GPO Witness History has won the Micheletti Award 2017 from the European Museum Academy at the Awards Ceremony in Skopje, Macedonia.  The Luigi Micheletti Award is the European prize for innovative museums in the world of contemporary history, industry and science. It is one of the leading activities of the Luigi Micheletti Foundation.

The judges said : The Centre is a perfect example of 20th century history in retrospect, dealing in an even-handed way with a very emotive subject, which would have been impossible even a decade ago. It is an extraordinary achievement, an historical challenge with has been transformed into a reconciliation centre which also poses questions for the future. Our warmest congratulations go to the whole team.

Kavanagh Tuite send their congratulations to Mark Leslie and all at Martello Media.

CUNDALL SEMINAR

We enjoyed the Cundall 'Beyond Zero' seminar yesterday on how we can be net positive in the office, at home, on projects and in the community.

The seminar was held in Wood Quay, and included the incredible statistic that Qatar's daily electricity consumption could power Sierra Leone for a year.

The group, from the Oslo, Norway Cultural Heritage Management Office. were fascinated with the delivery of a modern intervention in such a context. It was fantastic to welcome them to the city!

UCD-KTA_Belfield+Illumination+B-photo2.jpg

The celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of UCD included the illumination of public areas and buildings within the Belfield Campus, and we were delighted to be involved with the project.
In conjunction with Pritchard Themis Lighting Design and White Young Green, the night-time appearance of the campus has been transformed. The lakeside, water tower and more than a dozen of the campus's buildings have been illuminated in dramatic fashion.

Sustainability at Kavanagh Tuite by Stephen Moylan

SUSTAINABILITY AT KAVANAGH TUITE
At Kavanagh Tuite we emphasis that the process of 'green design' is the basis of all good architectural design, not an optional add-on. Sustainability is a huge part of our work.

Achieving the requisite standard requires committed integration of the whole design team from the very beginning, but it has to be architect-led from the position of informed professional knowledge, commitment and responsibility.

GPO Witness History Interpretive Centre by Stephen Moylan

This is a culturally significant project in one of Dublin's most iconic buildings on the city’s main thoroughfare, O’Connell Street. It was opened to the public last year for the 2016 centenary of the 1916 Rising.

The high profile project involved the construction of a new exhibition centre within the restored courtyard of the GPO. The public engagement with the iconic GPO has been hugely enhanced with the opening of the new interpretive centre. We are proud to have been involved in this significant project.

Dublin city landmark building by Stephen Moylan

Richmond Building Close-up

We are delighted to have led a project to transform The Richmond Education and Event Centre on North Brunswick Street, Dublin for the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO). The 3,300 square metre building was once an abandoned hospital, but will now be a state-of-the-art educational and event centre specifically for the INMO’s 40,000 members.

Richmond Building

This is particularly exciting because the building has always been an important landmark in Dublin city, as well as a protected structure. This wonderful re-imagination restores it to its former glory. We were part of a big team from client to craftsmen, utilising the very best in creative talent.

New Doyle Shipping Group building completed by Stephen Moylan

We recently completed a circa 1,300 square metre building for Doyle Shipping Group (DSG) in Dublin Port.  This project represents an adaptive re-use of an existing 1970s concrete-frame five-storey office building.  The robust design successfully reflects the prominence of this free-standing building while adding a contemporary addition to a fast-developing part of Dublin city.

The brief was to upgrade the existing structure to facilitate office and quayside staff for DSG Dublin Port operations. The works included a full building fabric strip-out, a full mechanical and electrical services upgrade, an internal office fit-out with associated canteen facilities and a performance-led building facade upgrade.

The strongly expressed aluminium shading fins to the southern elevation provide visual articulation to the south facade and solar protection within the building.

The INMO Project Team at the steps of the former Richmond Hospital.  In the front row is Elizabeth Adams, Director of the new Centre, with, on left, Liam Doran of the INMO, and Kavanagh Tuite’s Liam Tuite and Damien McMahon. We are nearly ready for handover of the project which will transform the once abandoned Hospital building to a state of the art education and event centre for the INMO’s forty thousand members. The building is an important landmark and a protected structure and has been wonderfully restored and reimagined.
